Victim Support Postpones Annual Appeal

Victim Support Postpones Annual Appeal

Victim Support announced today that they will be postponing all fundraising activities planned for their annual appeal this March. Chief Executive Tony Paine said that In light of the tragedy still unfolding in Christchurch the organization was unwilling to draw potential donations away from much needed funds for Christchurch.

“It’s simply the right thing to do. Funds for the people of Canterbury will be a priority for New Zealander’s at this time. Kiwis are generous people and we wouldn’t want to be doing anything that diverts funds from where they’re needed right now- and that’s Christchurch. ” He added.

This decision was also made in recognition of the additional work-load the quake crisis is placing on staff and volunteers throughout the country. Victim Support fundraising is undertaken by staff and volunteers throughout New Zealand in March and are supported by local organizations, businesses and schools.
Mr Paine wanted to thank Victim Support staff and volunteers, as well as the businesses and organizations like local schools that have given so much time and energy organizing fundraising activities.

“So many people have worked tirelessly to get events organized in local communities but we’re confident that people understand in light of the circumstances. In fact we’ve already had many emails in support of this decision.” Mr Paine said.

He added that Victim Support, as a not-for-profit still had a need to conduct fundraising activities, but that they would defer major activity until later in the year.
