Christchurch Airport is finalist for Asia-Pacific Routes award

Christchurch International Airport (CIAL) has been announced as one of the finalists for the 2011 Routes Asia-Pacific award.

“We are delighted at this nomination which is an industry recognition of airport marketing work,” said CIAL General Manager Marketing and Business Development, Gareth Owen. “In 2009, we won this award, and went on to win two further Routes awards, including the Global award for the Asia-Pacific region.”

Gareth Owen believes the award is acknowledgement of the marketing work CIAL does with airlines, from the legacy carriers to the recent securing of international low-cost carrier Air Asia X, which begins flights into Christchurch on April 1st.

“Our marketing strategy has always been to work with airlines and tourism organisations to bring travellers to the South Island, and this work is even more important following the earthquake on February 22nd,” said Gareth Owen.

Christchurch Airport is currently working with the tourism industry to develop a new strategy to ensure tourists continue to fly in and out of Christchurch Airport to travel in the South Island.
