Dora the Explorer visits Christchurch Hospital paediatric wards
Christchurch Hospital’s paediatric wards received a special visit from Dora the Explorer and her friends last week.
Hospital Play Specialist Dorothy Lavelle says the children were really excited about the visit as it also came as a welcomed relief after the past few weeks.
“The Children and parents have not only had to deal with the stresses of having a sick child but they have also had to deal with a major natural disaster – the February 22 earthquake,” Dorothy says.
Patients, parents nurses, doctors and play specialists also had their photos taken with the characters.
“The visit by Dora and her friends gave everyone something fun to look forward to.”
It’s important to have visitors like this to the children’s ward as it helps keep things fun and interesting for the patients while they stay in hospital and ultimately encourages happy and healthy recoveries, she says.
