Newmarket brings back Public Fashion Shows

The Newmarket Business Association is bringing back free Public fashion shows.

Association head, Ashley Church, says that free fashion shows were once commonplace in New Zealand but have disappeared in recent years and have been replaced by ticketed events which have only been accessible to a select few.

Mr Church says that Newmarket, as the Fashion Capital of New Zealand, is determined to change this:

"Fashion events should be about showcasing new styles and trends to the widest possible section of society - because ultimately, it's the public who will decide what we'll be wearing by voting with their purses and wallets".

Mr Church says that Newmarket will host its first public Fashion Show, in many years, this Saturday on Osborne Street in Newmarket. The event will be completely free to the public.

"We're putting a catwalk right down the middle of Osborne Street and running 4, completely free, shows featuring the latest garments from over 30 Newmarket Designers and retailers".

Mr Church says that advances in audio visual technology and the development of an extremely professional and successful New Zealand fashion industry over the past 20 years mean that the 4 shows will be spectacular.

"This will be the marriage of a beloved New Zealand tradition with the best on offer from a new generation of kiwis. Public Fashion shows are back and better than ever".
