Exclusive RIO Premiere to Benefit Disadvantaged Children in Christchurch

The exclusive premiere of RIO, the latest animated comedy from the creators of Ice Age, will be held at Botany Town Centre, Auckland on 3 April 2011. Proceeds from ticket sales go to KidsCan Charitable Trust’s Christchurch schools earthquake fund, with tickets available on TradeMe from 21 March.

More than 3000 financially disadvantaged children who attend 18 schools supported by KidsCan in Christchurch have been devastated by the earthquake. These children and their families didn’t have much to begin with and are now living in third world conditions with not enough water, food and basic hygiene items to ensure they don’t get sick. The Principals from KidsCan’s Christchurch schools have requested urgent help. To support these children and their families, the proceeds from ticket sales of the RIO premiere will go towards the KidsCan Christchurch schools earthquake fund.

Tickets to the 2D RIO premiere go on sale 21 March on TradeMe and will be available exclusively via the KidsCan store. Tickets are strictly limited to 380 seats, with family passes and individual tickets available. Visit http://trade.me/kidscan to purchase your tickets to the premiere. The movie premiere will be held at Hoyts Cinemas, Botany Town Centre on Sunday 3 April 2011 at 3.00pm.

In conjunction with the RIO premiere, a Carnival Street Party will be held at Botany Town Centre, Auckland on Saturday 2 April and Sunday 3 April from 10am to 4.30pm. The Carnival will feature latin dancers and musicians live on stage in Town Square; a craft market and carnival rides in Market Square and at Town Centre Drive; as well as roving entertainment. Local celebrities and KidsCan ambassadors will attend the event.

RIO tells the story of Blu, a domesticated macaw from small-town Minnesota, who takes off on an adventure to the bright lights and vibrant music of Rio de Janeiro. To view the Rio trailer, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68dsvRcXY9g .

The premiere promises to be a fun family event while helping out less fortunate children and families affected by the earthquake in Christchurch. For more information visit www.kidscan.org.nz .
