Lyttelton Port providing rubble solution

MEDIA RELEASE
LPC PROVIDING RUBBLE DISPOSAL SOLUTION
Lyttelton Port of Christchurch (LPC) is providing a solution to the city’s disposal of demolition hard fill from earthquake damage by opening a disposal area at the port.
The demolition material can be placed into a reclamation area at the eastern end of the port.
LPC Chief Executive Peter Davie says this is another way the port can assist the city’s recovery.
“This scheme is a win-win,” he says. “It benefits Christchurch because it diverts that material from landfill. At the same time, it will build future storage space and so assists the further development of the port as the cargo hub for the South Island.“
Rubble disposal is free of charge. This will give significant savings to building owners and insurance companies.
Mr Davie says the port has a significant role to play in the economic recovery of Christchurch and the Canterbury region after the February earthquake – and into the future.
ECan supports the hard-fill initiative.
LPC is accepting
contractors’ truck or truck-and-trailer loads of rock,
rubble and concrete.
Maugers Contracting will be
managing the site. The contact is Phil Mauger on 0274 812
