$51,000 presented to Plunket for Christchurch Plunket Kids

$51,000 presented to Plunket for Christchurch Plunket kids

All Blacks sponsor, Sealegs, presented Plunket with a cheque for $51,000 today to help re-establish services in Christchurch.

Auckland based amphibious boat manufacturer Sealegs International raised the money at a prestigious charity auction in Paris earlier this month, donating the net proceeds from a limited edition “All Blacks” Sealegs 7.1 metre amphibious boat at an auction of luxury products.

“Our hearts go out to all the people in Christchurch who have been affected and particularly to those with babies who need all the friendly support and services for which Plunket is renowned,” said Sealegs Chairman Eric Series.

Plunket CEO Jenny Prince said that the substantial donation will make an enormous difference to the services Plunket can offer to the families of Christchurch.

“Many families have fled to outlying regions, and are seeking Plunket support and we’re noticing an increase in demand for services around the country.”

“A number of our Plunket premises in Christchurch have been severely damaged by the 22 February earthquake – some have been completely destroyed.

“While normal services are still suspended in Christchurch we are working with a number of other organisations to provide as many services as possible when and where needed,” she said.

“Our funding both through central government and public donation is limited and something like a devastating earthquake leaves us with significantly stretched financial resources. We’re tremendously grateful to Sealegs for putting the amphibious boat up for auction, and to the buyer who wishes to remain anonymous, whom we would otherwise wish to thank personally”.

Plunket clients who have left Christchurch are encouraged to contact the local Plunket office or clinic in their new location, or to phone PlunketLine (0800 939 922) to re-establish contact with Plunket.
