Rodney businesses stand out at awards launch
Rodney businesses have joined the search to find local companies that stand out from the crowd through the 2011 Westpac Auckland North Business Awards.

More than 100 local business people attended an official launch at the Silverdale United Rugby Football Club last night to kick off the awards season.

Now in its 14th year and with a fresh new look, the awards celebrate the successes of all businesses across all industries, based from the Harbour Bridge in the south to Te Hana in the north.

Auckland Mayor Len Brown describes the awards as the pinnacle of celebration for the local business community.

“The local communities within our great region offer a distinctive and unique flavour to their own areas while also contributing to the overall success of Auckland.

“These awards offer an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the business brilliance that burgeons in the north Auckland area,” says Mr Brown.

Steve Jurkovich, Westpac’s Regional Manager Business Banking - Northern is delighted to once again be associated with the awards.

“Westpac continues to be proud supporters of all New Zealand businesses striving to reach their true potential. We are strong advocates of celebrating individual and community successes,” says Mr Jurkovich.

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) coordinates the annual awards which culminate in a glittering black-tie gala dinner in September.

ATEED Business Development Manager, Ngaio Merrick, welcomes all businesses to enter.

“There is a large diversity of businesses based in north Auckland and we are keen to see this reflected in the make-up of entrants. Whether they are small, large, owner-operated or national branches, we encourage and challenge all businesses to recognise their own success so we can celebrate as a community,” says Ms Merrick.

“The former Rodney district has a kaleidoscope of wonderful businesses that significantly impact the local economy. We would like to see them acknowledged for their significant contribution to the region,” she says.

Businesses can enter up to three of 12 categories, with all winners eligible for the Westpac Supreme Excellence Award.

The next awards event is an entrant celebration at North Harbour Stadium in Albany on 5 May. See www.ens.org.nz/awards for more information on the awards and its networking events.
