Porirua City Out Performs National GDP Results

Porirua City Out Performs National GDP Results

Porirua City's economic growth is well ahead of the national economy according to figures released today in Porirua City Council's new-look quarterly economic update.

According to the Porirua Economic Bulletin, most key economic indicators, such as GDP, building consents and vehicle registrations, are twice or even three times those of the national average.

"Porirua is a strong retail centre but at GDP of 2.8% for the year to December 2010 these results show it is much more than that," says Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett,

"Our exporters are world class and have continued to be productive and growing despite recent recessionary times," Mayor Leggett says.

"The Council also plays a lead role in the economic development of its community," says Mayor Nick Leggett.

"Information is a key commodity in the business sector. One of the Council's services is to provide a regular overview of the Porirua economy enabling local or potential businesses or investors to make good decisions for their business, which ultimately is good for the rest of our community," Mayor Leggett says. The revamped Porirua Economic Bulletin is prepared by Infometrics Ltd in conjunction with Porirua City's Economic Development Group.

Each March, June, September and December, the Porirua Economic Bulletin is published summarising key quarterly economic and business indicators for and about Porirua City.

The information and analysis supplied by Infometrics is drawn from Statistics NZ, Ministry of Social Development, Real Estate Institute of New Zealand, Quotable Value NZ, the Electricity Commission, and New Zealand Transport Agency.
