The efforts of Tutira’s active community group
have paid off with a new information sign installed at
Tutira store on the Napier-Wairoa Road.
Seeking better exposure for the many values that make Tutira district a special place, the community group led by Regional Council staff identified a roadside information sign as one of the first objectives for the group to focus on.
Tutira resident Sue Maxwell is a keen advocate for Tutira and what its surroundings have to offer. She said, “Now the community has got a way to proactively show some of what is available to people visiting this area and passing through, from Shine Falls to camping at the Country Park or Holt Forest Arboretum.”
After researching the information that appears on the sign, as well as sourcing imagery and gaining approval from all those involved, it finally appeared on Thursday and was immediately the local focus of attention.
Speaking for Maungaharuru Tangitu Inc and Tangoio Marae, group member Tania Hopmans was impressed with the sign saying, “We’ve got so many stories to tell about the Tutira area and its past. The sign is a great touchstone for local people and visitors and will help us to move on to other tangible projects.”
The Tutira Maungaharuru Visionary Group includes Tutira residents, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, Fish & Game, the Department of Conservation, Guthrie-Smith Trust, ECOED Trust, local hāpu and representatives from Pan Pac.
The sign was funded by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council.
