Volunteers sign up for Rugby World Cup 2011
Northland’s Rugby World Cup 2011 planning team has been overwhelmed with the large numbers and high calibre of Northland volunteers.
The last round of volunteer interviews were held recently in Whangarei and Paihia.
It was estimated around 130 people attended interviews in Whangarei on Tuesday (22nd) and Wednesday (23rd), with around 50 people interviewed in Paihia on Thursday (24th).
“We interviewed a range of locals from all walks of life who were passionate and excited to be part of the Tournament – and are proud to showcase the best of Northland,” said Sport Northland’s Colleen Atchison, who is leading the volunteer recruitment effort.
She says while the Tournament itself is still six months’ away, time is pressing and interviews needed to be completed promptly to allow training and uniforms to be organised.
The region will be hosting three teams during the Tournament – Canada, Japan and Tonga – and volunteers will carry out a myriad of roles in September and October this year leading up to and during the six-week Tournament.
