Festival of Colour Daytime Programme Brings Affordable Arts to the Community

LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (March 29, 2011) - The Festival of Colour’s programme of daytime music continues its philosophy of bringing affordable arts to the community. With ticket prices at just $10, audiences can enjoy lunchtime shows from a diverse range of renowned New Zealand musicians.

Elixir, an ensemble featuring some of New Zealand’s most well-known chamber musicians kicks the festival off on Tuesday 12 April with a colourful programme incorporating everything from Hungarianfolk songs to Mozart to jazz.

Richard Nunns is a living authority on Taonga Puoro, traditional Maori instruments. Wednesday lunchtime will see the Central Lakes Trust Crystal Palace echo with the haunting sounds from his extraordinary collection of instruments. Major New Zealand films such as Whale Rider and Lord of the Rings have featured his work.

In contrast, the Blyde Lasses are a dynamic young female duo who showcase traditional Shetland songs and tunes on the fiddle and concertina. They have taken their Celtic blend of tunes around the world, playing at numerous international festivals and come to Wanaka on Thursday 14 April.

Rosy Tin Teacaddy rounds off the lunchtime sessions on Sunday with a set that is described as ‘a gentle car crash of indie, folk and alt-country with two guitars, two voices and a gift for thestory-telling gab’. Guaranteed to bring a smile to audiences face and get toes tapping they promise and amusing finish to these daytime shows.

At the other end of the day, Paul McLaney will play at the Late Night Club on Friday 15 April, again with tickets just $10. Nominated for Best Male Music Performer at the 2007 NZ Music Awards, he brings his acoustic set to the Central Lakes Trust Trust Crystal Palace for an intimate late night session.
