New Project Launched to Capture Christchurch’s Most Inspiring Stories
Several teams of young filmmakers have now kick-started short film productions about young changemakers in Christchurch.
Students from Aranui High, St Margaret’s College, Kaiapoi High, and Unlimited School took part in the two-day intensive storytelling and filmmaking workshop held in collaboration with the Student Volunteer Army.
The young filmmakers learnt new skills, connected with industry professional mentors, and worked in small teams to kick-start a two to four minute short film project about young people making a difference in the local community. The teams aim to finish their short films over the next eight weeks.
The Inspiring Stories Project is a nationwide initiative being headed by internationally award-winning young filmmaker and CEO of the Inspiring Stories Trust, Guy Ryan. The project is possible due to support from the Vodafone NZ Foundation’s 2011 World of Difference programme.
“We’re hoping some of the country’s most inspiring stories will come out of Christchurch – the participants were all really enthusiastic at the workshop, and left feeling really excited about their short productions underway” says Guy.
The Inspiring Stories workshops have now taken place
in Nelson, Greymouth, Wanaka, Dunedin, and Christchurch,
with workshops taking place around the North Island after
easter. Interested young people aged 13–26 are encouraged
to apply to take part online – www.inspiringstories.org.nz.
All the
short films made by young filmmakers throughout New Zealand
will be showcased at the Inspiring Stories Film Festival in
Wellington later in the year.
