Motat Offers Free Golden Ticket to Auckland Region Seniors

MOTAT is giving Auckland region seniors over 65 the opportunity to turn back the clock and relive their golden days for free.

From 01 April – 30 June 2011, residents with a Super Gold Card living in the Auckland region can enjoy all MOTAT has to offer at no cost.

Jeremy Hubbard, MOTAT Museum Director, said that MOTAT is offering the promotion to give back to a group that has invested so much time and energy in the Museum over the 47 years it has been open.

“Auckland region residents over 65 are particularly fond of MOTAT and some have even contributed the collection objects we have on show here at the Museum. The input, knowledge and support that Auckland region seniors offer is invaluable to us and helps contribute to the rich history we have here at MOTAT,” said Mr Hubbard.

Visitors can take a ride on MOTAT’s beautifully restored trams, including the Wellington double decker tram 47. There are fascinating exhibitions to explore at the Museum, including the 1950s themed ‘I Am The Last Tram’, and the history of tea drinking exhibition ‘A Teaspoon per Cup and One for the Pot’ based in the Victorian Village.

Chat with the volunteers restoring some of MOTAT’s historic road transport collection on Wednesdays, take a guided tour around the Pumphouse on weekdays or see the working Beam Engine in action on Thursdays.

“There is plenty to see and do here at MOTAT during the cooler months, so we welcome people to come on in and enjoy the Museum. There is also plenty for children to interact with too, so we encourage grandparents to bring their grandchildren along for an enjoyable day out,” says Mr Hubbard.
