Have your say on the Hutt’s safety priorities
HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE
28 APRIL 2011
Have your say on the
Hutt’s safety priorities
Half of all injuries in the Hutt Valley come from road crashes and falls at home and the Safe Hutt Valley Interagency Group’s first strategic plan seeks to reduce these statistics.
The draft plan identifies priorities to tackle crime and road crashes, injury prevention and reducing alcohol related harm in the region.
It is now open for public consultation and Mayor Ray Wallace is encouraging people to have their say.
“This year Hutt City Council has committed extra funding for community patrols, neighbourhood support and a graffiti coordinator.
“We’re working within our communities everyday in a coordinated way to ensure we’re getting the best from all the local resources available.
“If you care about improving safety at home, and in your community, this is your opportunity to tell us if our priorities to improve safety over the next five years are right,” he says.
Residents can come along to a public meeting on Thursday 5 May to hear more about the draft plan and be part of a discussion on Safe Hutt Valley Interagency Group activities. The meeting will be held at Hutt City Council Chambers, 30 Laings Road, Lower Hutt from 4 to 6pm.
A copy of the plan is available at www.huttcity.govt.nz/safetyplan or call 570 6666 for a copy.
Feedback on the plan can also be submitted to Safe Hutt Valley, Private Bag 31912, Lower Hutt by 31 May 2011, by email or on the website.
