On the Swap to Hop

Auckland Transport Media Release
5 May 2011

On the Swap to Hop

Go-Rider public transport card users on the North Shore have begun swapping out their cards in readiness for Auckland Transport’s new public transport smartcard, HOP. Kelsey Cameron from West Harbour was among the first Go Rider users to swap out her old card for a brand new HOP card at Constellation station from HOP Helper Hayley .

On 8 May HOP cards with a Snapper logo will be available to use on North Star buses and will replace Go Rider cards. The rollout will continue in the following weeks on Go West and Waka Pacific buses on 22 May then Metrolink and LINK buses on 6 June. HOP cards were available from retail outlets from Monday and are also on sale at the Constellation and Albany bus station coffee kiosks.

For more information about HOP, pick up a "Here Comes Hop" leaflet on board your bus, visit myhop.co.nz or call 09 366 4HOP (09 366 4467).

How to change out your GO Rider card for a HOP card or pick up a HOP card

Change-outs for Go-Rider cards and for new HOP cards are available from this week.

Customers simply show a HOP Helper their existing Go Rider card and if eligible their concession ID. They will then be issued with a HOP card.

Customers can still continue to travel on their Go Rider cards up until their bus service changes to HOP. They will be able to transfer any balance from their existing Go Rider cards to their new HOP card at a HOP stand, as soon as their service has changed to the new HOP system. HOP stands will be located at shopping centres and transport centres, including Britomart

Those who don’t have a Go Rider card can purchase a HOP card with the Snapper logo at selected retailers displaying the HOP and Snapper sign.

If you use your Go Rider card on more than one bus service, keep both your Go Rider card and your new HOP Snapper card until all the bus services you use have changed over to the HOP system.
