Insulation Funding Will Boost Homeowners Expectations
Insulation Funding Will Boost Homeowners Expectations
The Auckland City Warmer Home Refit scheme has been under scrutiny this week.
“With more than 40,000 Auckland homes currently below the minimum building code, this is definitely a step in the right direction” says Aidan Jury CEO, Future-Proof Building.
The Auckland City Council announced that the Warmer Home Retrofit initiative, previously only applied to West Auckland residents, would now be extended to homeowners in the wider Auckland region. The Retrofit initiative funds $5,000 worth of insulation and clean heating that can be paid back through instalments on rate payments over a minimum of nine years.
“Not only does insulation and clean heating make your home healthier but it can add value to your resale price over time. This initiative will drive the expectation of tenants and an insulated home will become the norm, as has been the case in Australia and the UK.
There has been criticism that this initiative will not apply to the large rental property market, but Landlords should also look to improve their tenanted homes. Not only will the cost of funding be lower than if they borrowed directly from the bank but their rental property will be attractive to future tenants.” says Jury.
Insulation and heating are just the first steps to a healthy and efficient home.
Water efficiency solutions such as low-flow shower heads and rainwater harvesting will reduce our energy bills and help the environment.
“It is a positive step for Auckland to make insulation and clean heating accessible to more families throughout Auckland”.
Future-Proof Building has a renovation home in Ellerslie where homeowners can find out more about insulation, rainwater harvesting and energy efficiency in a retrofit environment. The Renovation home is the only one of its kind in Auckland and is essential viewing for anyone about to take on a retrofit project.
