Buses Replace Some Trains this Weekend

Buses Replace Some Trains this Weekend

Buses will replace trains on sections of the Southern and Onehunga rail lines this weekend.

The closures are necessary to allow Kiwirail and Auckland Transport to continue upgrading the rail network and prepare it for electrification.

Buses replacing trains, Saturday 14 May

• Papakura and Otahuhu.

Buses replacing trains, Sunday 15 May

• Papakura and Britomart

• Onehunga and Britomart.

Replacement rail bus services will be provided during the closures and special timetables will be in place for them. For full details go to www.maxx.co.nz Details will also be available at stations.

Passengers using Otahuhu Station are advised to allow about an extra five minutes for walking. The footbridge connecting the station with Walmsley Rd will be temporarily closed, meaning the Kaka St road bridge should be used to get to the rail bus stops at Titi St.

Given the significant amount of work to be done, closures on Auckland's rail network will be a regular occurrence for the foreseeable future. Works are generally scheduled to minimise disruption to peak-hour commuter services and carried out at weekends, public holidays, and evenings when there are usually fewer people travelling.

Following this weekend, the next rail line closures will be at Queen’s Birthday weekend, Saturday 4 to Monday 6 June.

For more details on the upgrade of the rail network visit www.kiwirail.co.nz.
