Westfield Albany – Business as Usual
Westfield Albany – Business as Usual
Albany, Auckland, NZ: Westfield New Zealand advises it is business as usual for their shopping centre, Westfield Albany after last Tuesday’s [3May] tornado.
Today Farmers re-opened their store on both levels, and the majority of retailers on Level two are now trading. Level 1 [Ground Level] was re-opened on the weekend of 7 & 8 May.
The East end of the mall has been trading since 4 May, 2011 including the Foodcourt, Kmart, New World Supermarket and the food court. Event Cinemas commenced trade on the 5 May.
“Works to the roof at the western end of the mall following the tornado are nearing completion. The stores that were affected in this area of the mall are completing their works, and have been re-opening in stages. Further stores will trade from Friday 13 May and over the weekend”, said Mr Justin Lynch, Director, Westfield New Zealand.
“The centre was deemed structurally sound and safe to occupy on Wednesday 4 May. To have the centre operational with the life safety and engineering certifications in place for trading was a credit to all concerned. The collaboration between all parties especially the Albany retailers and Westfield team members has made the process to re-open run efficiently and safely.
“We have been working closely with our retailers to assist them with their store re-openings in a safe and efficient manner. There are approximately 12 stores undertaking works and are expected to open in the next 7 – 10 days. One store will take up to 21 days,” said Mr Lynch.
