Fr Des Britten announces his retirement as City Missioner

Media Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

One of The Wellington City Mission’s longest serving and valued staff members is retiring.

Fr Des Britten was appointed to the role of Wellington City Missioner in 1994, and has seen many changes and developments within The Mission and the programmes delivered by this well-established social service agency. Over the past 17 years, The Mission’s Community Services team has gone from a staff of 8 to over 30 – a sign of many varied economic and social changes. Mission CEO, Michelle Branney said “The Mission has benefitted immeasurably from the vast network of connections Father Des has in Wellington and from his experience in many and varied facets of our society. He has, literally, been the face of the Mission throughout his tenure as Wellington City Missioner”.

“The Mission has also been fortunate to have Fr Des’ wife, Lorraine Britten, on the staff, supporting the Community Services group with her events management experience and administrative skills. Both Fr Des and Lorraine will remain at The Mission until 31 July, after which time they will embark on a well deserved rest after such purposeful working lives” Ms Branney said.
