Rural Women NZ Recognised for Breast Cancer Fundraising

Rural Women New Zealand Recognised for Innovative Breast Cancer Fundraising

Rural Women New Zealand has been recognised for the runaway success of its Let’s Get Plastered for Breast Cancer campaign, at the Fundraising Institute of New Zealand Fundraising Excellence Awards 2011.

Our organisation received a merit award at Parliament on Friday evening in The Kiwibank Special Events Charity Fundraising Award for Excellence category.

Announcing the merit award, FINZ Communications Manager Susan Fogarty said the success of the Rural Women New Zealand entry stood out.

“This group of innovative, self-starters saw a need in the community and wanted to do something practical and memorable about it, and they certainly did! Respondents to their unique appeal became practically involved in the cause in an intimate way that not only raised money but profiled the cause widely and extraordinarily.”

Rural Women New Zealand members will present a cheque for $16,000 to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation at their national conference on Sunday.

The money will go towards research being undertaken by Associate Professor Susan Dovey of Otago University, comparing breast cancer outcomes for rural women compared with those living in urban areas.

“We are delighted that the funds our members raised for breast cancer will go back into rural health research,” says Rural Women New Zealand National President, Liz Evans.
