Kiwis Embrace Harry Potter Midnight Madness

Harry Potter fans are flocking to the midnight screenings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part Two according EVENT Cinemas. Anticipating huge interest EVENT Cinemas allocated additional screenings through its network which are being snapped up around the country.

General Manager of EVENT Cinemas, Jane Hastings says Potter fans seem to be at their strongest in Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland where the midnight sessions are sold out or close to it.

“Both our IMAX theatre in Auckland and The Embassy in Wellington have sold out their midnight sessions with over 1000 tickets sold to these two screenings alone”

EVENT Cinemas are bringing back Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part One playing the movie immediately prior to the midnight sessions allowing Potter fans to refresh their memories and savour the whole final book experience on screen.

Mrs Hastings says the movie will be shown across their different types of theatres on opening weekend including 2 and 3D, IMAX, Gold Class and the recently opened Vmax in St Lukes, Auckland.

“Harry Potter has galvanised people of all ages, this is not just about children and family fans, it is a phenomenon that has gripped generations around the world, which is why we are even scheduling early breakfast sessions in Auckland and Wellington to cater for people wanting to see the movie before they go to work.”

EVENT Cinemas say several of their cinemas in Auckland and The Embassy in Wellington will show the movie at 6.30am.

“Based on sales from previous Harry Potter movies we know this will be just as huge. We are running 24 hour back to back sessions of the latest release in our Queen Street complex which is a first plus Queen Street will be playing all of the earlier Harry Potter films as part of a six week countdown to the opening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part Two, which will open 12.01am on 14 July.”
