Hurunui Steps Up To Youth Week
MEDIA RELEASE
16th May 2011
Hurunui Steps Up To Youth Week
The districts youth are being invited to
participate in a series of physical and mental challenges
‘with a message’ during Youth Week.
Hurunui Youth Programme Committees in the three area high schools have seized on the theme – “Stepping Up, being youth, taking responsibility and being heard” – and organised three key activities that will celebrate young people while challenging negative stereotypes.
These are a games night – where youths can try out the new Body Zorbs, an alcohol awareness mini quiz competition and also the launch of the HYP website competition.
Youth Week kicks off on Friday
May 20, with the Amuri Games Night – which will consist of
Body Zorb Games, Wii Challenge, Sing star Challenge and a
Mini Quiz Competition about alcohol awareness.
There
will also be some food and spot prizes.
The Games Night will be held at the Amuri Area School Gym and Culverden Community Room from 4.30-8.30pm. Gold coin entry.
Then on Thursday May 26th is the Club HYP Youth Week party celebrating youth week with party food, games and fun. The event will be held in the Amberley Library from 4-6pm.
The final event is a Youth Week Social at Cheviot in the Community Room from 7-10pm. There will be a Live DJ, glow in the dark face paint and spot prizes. Tickets are just $3.
A Mini Quiz Competition about alcohol awareness will be running at the Amberley Library through-out Youth Week. There will be ALAC resources available for young people and families about alcohol awareness and issues
HYP has run Youth Week events every year since the programme started at the end of 2008, with a Youth and Parents Challenge Day at the Ultimate Challenge Centre in 2009, and a Youth Week Quiz Night for youth and families in 2010.
Youth Week this year will also see the launch of a competition to come up with a design for the HYP Website.
The competition is open to 12-18 year olds who live in Hurunui who have until Friday July 29th to enter.
An IPod Nano and book vouchers to the value of $100 and $75 will be awarded to the three best designs.
Entry forms can be collected from libraries or one of the three Area High schools.
