Public meeting on ‘clean zone’ and advertising around Rugby World Cup
ROTORUA 03.06.11: Rotorua District Council’s event’s unit, Events & Venues Rotorua, is encouraging locals and businesses to attend an information presentation next week where restrictions on advertising and commercial activities during Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC2011) will be explained.
The Tuesday afternoon (4pm) session at the Convention Centre will explain the implications of Rotorua’s ‘clean zone’ and ‘clean transport route’ and will help people to understand the criteria for marketing and commercial exposure during RWC2011 events in Rotorua.
The seminar will include presentations by representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development, Rugby World Cup 2011, and RWC2011’s commercial manager IMG.
Events & Venues general manager Peter McLeod says while retailers and other businesses are being encouraged to dress up their premises as part of the celebrations they need to be aware about government restrictions in place to guard against ‘ambush marketing’.
“These protections are primarily provided through the Major Events Management Act – known as MEMA - and supported by council bylaws.
“The public meeting has been arranged to help local businesses to understand the requirements of MEMA and what they mean to us here in Rotorua.”
Topics will include: what is 'ambush marketing' and the need to provide commercial protection? What is meant by clean zones around the stadium? What are clean transport routes? And what are the regulations around use of Rugby World Cup names, logos and trademarks?
The information session is being held on Tuesday 7 June from 4pm to 5pm at Rotorua Convention Centre. This is a free event and advance registrations are not required.
