NZYF spirit strong at Field Days
After a whole lot of preparation and many volunteer hours from the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Region, the New Zealand Young Farmers site has won the Jubilee Award at the NZ National Agricultural Fieldays in Mystery Creek.
The award is presented by the President to the site that enhances the spirit of Fieldays. The recipient receives a trophy and wins a $1000 contribution to the cost of their site next year.
NZYF Members have been hard at work helping set up the tractor pull, fencing competition and have assisted with general set up and break down at the Fieldays. There are also NZYF Members that sit on the Fieldays Committee.
Fieldays Event Manager Vanessa Richmond says that the NZYF Members really go that extra mile to help make the event a success.
“The spirit that the Young Farmer volunteers bring to Fieldays really helps to take it to a triple star event.”
NZYF National Vice-President Jason Hoyle was very grateful for the award and proud of the team effort put in by the Members.
“It was a great surprise to receive one of the top awards at Fieldays – especially considering we only set up our exhibit half a day before Fieldays started.”
Mr Hoyle says the work started as early as last Friday when they helped set up for the heats of the fencing competition and then it had been 6am starts and long days for the key volunteers through the week.
“We were all so busy volunteering we didn’t even realise that there was an awards ceremony going on – so unfortunately no one was there to receive the award. But I’m very grateful and very proud of the team effort.”
