Ballantynes clearance great success

Ballantynes clearance great success

Ballantynes’ five-day clearance sale has been labelled a great success and a big stride forward to its goal of opening again in the central city on October 29 as part of City Mall Re:Start.

Mary Devine, Managing Director of Ballantynes, said that the clearance was an integral part of the company’s recovery following the February earthquake as it clears the way for new ranges on re-opening the Ballantynes City Mall store.

“We had over 125,000 items on sale and I’m pleased to say that there was little left when we closed the doors at 4pm today. We estimate that over 18,000 people visited the CBS Canterbury Arena during the clearance and I would like to thank them all for their support.

“I know our staff really enjoyed meeting so many of our customers again. We had about 270 staff rostered on over the period and I also want to thank them for their dedication through such a hectic period,” she said.

Ms Devine admits to being caught a bit off guard by the size of the crowds on the first two days of the sale.

“Following the two aftershocks on the Monday and the fact we had to postpone the clearance by a day, we were unsure how many customers would turn out. We had 20 checkouts but it was not enough to cope with peak demand.

“I do want to apologise for any inconvenience for those who had to wait for long periods to get into the clearance or through the checkouts at the beginning of the sale,” she said.

Ballantynes is planning a couple of other “special events” in the coming months, which will focus on new seasonal ranges and exclusive homeware brands.
