Locals show support for upcoming Petone Carnival

The fifth annual Petone Carnival this Saturday is set to be the best yet thanks to the generous support of a number of local organisations.

With their support, this year the Carnival boasts a range of new features to delight the expected crowd of more than 40,000 people. New features include live entertainment from the Wellington Musician's Network, a cultural marketplace and the Contact Energy LEGEND Parade.

Major events coordinator Thomas Buchanan says support from local sponsors such as Contact Energy has been invaluable. "The team at the Contact Energy Lower Hutt office have been really supportive and it's fantastic to have them on board.

"We're really excited about the LEGEND Parade, featuring samba drumming, masks, lanterns, and costumes, and expect it to be a highlight of the day.

"Thanks also to Hutt Valley Community Arts for running free samba drumming workshops in preparation for the parade," he says. In the lead up to the Carnival, the Lion Foundation has also once again sponsored a lighting display along Petone Foreshore.

This display can be viewed at night, now until the end of the Carnival, and has been very popular with residents along The Esplanade.

The Petone Carnival starts at 2pm, Saturday 10 September, on Petone Foreshore.
