Holiday Parks welcome RWC visitors

“It has been an exciting and busy weekend for holiday parks in Rugby World Cup match venues from Invercargill to Auckland,” says Holiday Accommodation Parks Association Chief Executive Fergus Brown.

“Auckland was abuzz with French, Italian and Australian visitors making the most of the opening party and games,” says Mr Brown.

“Taranaki hummed with the Irish, who were not at all bothered with the rain. Belt Road Holiday Park, which operated an additional site to cope with fan numbers, reported that the Irish were ‘fantastic, happy visitors’.”

Invercargill played host to the Scottish and Romanians. Mr Brown says Invercargill TOP 10 Holiday Park reported about 50% of the Scottish fans are staying on in the city for their next game on Wednesday, with many of the balance heading to Fiordland and the Southern Lakes for sightseeing.

Dunedin had a great weekend with the Argentinean and English fans getting into party mode.

“Dunedin Holiday Park had nearly 700 campervans on site with spontaneous games of rugby breaking out between rival fans,” says Mr Brown. “The biggest incident was when a child’s rugby ball got stuck in a macrocarpa tree.

”Wellington TOP 10 Holiday Park was busy, with the Welsh and South Africans enjoying their Sunday night game. They are delighted a number of guests have extended their stay to recover from the Sunday night revelry.”

He says Rotorua holiday parks handled the additional visitors in town for the Fiji v Namibia match with ease and are now looking forward to visitors travelling between games.
