Former Police Chief to take on challenging Cathedral role
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Anne Knox as Associate to the Dean of The Taranaki Cathedral Church of St Mary. This is a new and exciting appointment, which we believe Anne is both called to and uniquely equipped for. She was the New Plymouth Police Area Commander for nine years until November 2006, and in 2002 was awarded a Queens Service Medal (QSM) for her services to the public.
The Associate to the Dean will be responsible for key areas of development and oversight. In particular, Anne will be developing and nurturing small group ministry within the Cathedral and helping these groups to develop and support one another. She will also be working to deepen further the prayer life of the Cathedral.
Anne will be deputy to Dean Jamie Allen and her presence as a full time minister will give him space to further explore the ministry of our Cathedral in Taranaki. When the Dean is away from Taranaki, she will assume the key leadership role in the Cathedral team. For this she is supremely well suited. Anne is a proven and experienced leader, well used to encouraging a talented and committed team such as we have at St Mary’s.
Mostly recently Anne has been involved with the Baptist church and comes with theological and ministry development training. We know her to be an able Christian leader, a fine preacher and a teacher of the faith. She is a highly regarded pastor with a deep love of people.
We are grateful to the family of Central Baptist Church, New Plymouth (where Anne is presently an elder) for being so supportive as she moves into this critical role in a sister church. We believe that, to the wider community, this will be a visible sign of the unity in diversity and mutual respect, which exists amongst Christians.
Anne believes her new role will be a huge challenge but says it has a “sense of rightness” about it. She is looking forward to using her leadership skills in this new and exciting context.
