Ireland and Russia sell out Rotorua

FanZone and public training opportunities still available for Bay of Plenty fans

More than 26,000 people will enjoy the Bay of Plenty’s final match of the Rugby World Cup 2011, when Ireland and Russia battle it out in front of a sell-out crowd at Rotorua International Stadium.

Chief Executive Officer of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union, Mike Rogers said he was looking forward to the atmosphere at the stadium on Sunday 25 September 2011.

“The crowds at the first two games we hosted were great, but to achieve a sell out for our final game is really fantastic,” Mike said.

“We knew that the final game in Rotorua would draw a big crowd because Irish fans love their rugby, and with the team playing such a great tournament people are really keen to come and see them up close.

“This is Russia’s first appearance at a Rugby World Cup, so to play in front of a packed stadium will be quite an experience for them.”

Mike encouraged people who missed out on tickets to head along to one of the other events happening in the region to be part of the action.

“The official FanZone at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre on Queens Drive in Government Gardens will be open from 5pm on Sunday and it’s free,” he said.

“People of all ages can watch the game on the big screen and get involved in a heap of fun activities.

“If you can’t get to Rotorua to be part of the final game in the Bay, perhaps head to the Russian team training session at Baypark in Mount Maunganui on Friday, or the Beach Touch International Tournament in Ōhope next week.

“With so much on, there’s plenty of things for people to do to make the most of one of the world’s biggest sporting events happening right on our doorstep!”

The Rugby World Cup 2011 match between Ireland and Russia kicks off at 6pm on Sunday 25 September 2011.
