The club’s youngsters will be guided by members of the Taranaki Iwi and staff from the Taranaki Regional Council and Department of Conservation through activities including construction of weta houses and tunnels, harakeke/flax weaving, storytelling and a guided walk.

Pukeiti Explorer Club is aimed at the young and the young at heart, and membership is free. Six Explorer Club fun days are held annually.

“This time the focus is on the cultural heritage of Pukeiti and we’re delighted that Iwi and DOC are joining us to guide families through what promises to be a fascinating day,” says the Taranaki Regional Council’s Regional Gardens Manger, Greg Rine.

Sunday’s event will run from 10.30am to 2pm and families wanting to join in should bring lunch, hats, gummies and sunblock. Indoor shelter is available and activities will proceed regardless of the weather.

Explorer Club fun days are part of a year-round programme of free public events at Pukeiti and at Tupare and Hollard Gardens, two other heritage properties owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region. All three properties are open daily and entry is free.
