Celebrate RWC 2011 in your local community
Local communities across Auckland are getting into the festive spirit of Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC 2011).
Thirty-four local centres are taking part in Auckland’s Adopt-a-second-team programme and many are planning special events and activities themed around their adopted countries.
This weekend, get into the action and check out these exciting community events:
• Newmarket comes alive with Italian fanfare on Saturday from noon. There’ll be jugglers, musicians and buskers on street corners to delight young and old, plus free facepainting at Lumsden Green from 2pm to 7pm to ready people in support of the evening’s quarter-final match
• Head to Pukekohe Town Centre this weekend and set out on your own fact-finding mission about the community’s adopted team, Namibia in their Scavenger Hunt. You’ll find clues to help you as you browse the shop windows in this charming local village
• This and
every weekend during RWC 2011, Sandringham Village is
supporting Canada and has a great line up of activities for
people to enjoy. A village market operates in the local
community centre from 8am to 2pm and there’s entertainment
from Jiggles the Canadian Clown and local musicians
including Luke Hurley and AJ Bell
Auckland Tourism,
Events and Economic Development Destination General Manager,
Rachael Dacy, is pleased local communities are celebrating
RWC 2011 in their own unique ways.
“It is great to see so many Auckland communities coming together in support of this Tournament and I encourage people to make sure they get out and see what activities and events are happening in their local area,” says Ms Dacy.
People can check out the events calendar on auckland2011.com for more information about these and other upcoming events.
