Nominations close next week - New Zealander of the Year Awards 2012

Just an important reminder that nominations close for the New Zealander of the Year Awards 2012 next week on the 14th October. Whilst nominations are flooding in from all around the country we are hoping to highlight the message that the search to recognise the best of our country and highlight the achievements of New Zealanders is well underway and there is not much time left to nominate an individual or group. We are looking for those who are making a positive contribution to our communities and to the nation. The current New Zealander of the Year is Sir Paul Callaghan and in 2010, Sir Ray Avery.

Attached is a Press Release with further information and we are certainly happy to talk to you about possible story lines around the nominations received. The diversity is amazing from all sectors, sport, music, science, the community and of course some fabulous young people! We have received nominations from Bluff to Kaitaia however there are still some provinces that don’t appear to have any Local Heroes and we would really like to receive these as up to 250 medals will be awarded throughout the country.

We appreciate your support to date and hope that in this final week you are able to spread the word that this is a programme for all of New Zealand and we really want to attract worthy nominees and celebrate all that is good about New Zealand!

In addition to the New Zealander of the Year Award, the following categories are also available for nominations:

• Young New Zealander of the Year
• Local Heroes

Happy to arrange interviews, assist with profiles of some of the exploits of the nominees or provide further info on the judges and other highlights. The latest Press Releases are also available on our website, www.nzawards.org.nz.

Award recipients each receive $5000 and all nominees a certificate of recognition for their nominations. Nominations forms can be obtained from our office or can be made online at www.nzawards.org.nz or via our Facebook page.
