Sunday is the last day to submit alternative ideas to Wellywood

Sunday is the last day Wellingtonian’s can submit their alternative idea to Wellywood for the installation on the Miramar Peninsular.

The ideas phase closes at midnight on Sunday 9 October. The panel will then select up to 8 ideas from the 160 already put forward. The Wellington region can then vote on these ideas. The top two voted ideas will then go up against Wellywood in a final vote.

The first round of voting commences on 28 October and closes at midnight on 5 November.

Currently a Boeing 737 sized ALL BLACKS sign is on the hill supporting our national team.

The original sign idea was to celebrate and draw attention to Wellington’s vibrant and award winning global film industry. The name Wellywood was chosen from a range of options that reflected those points of difference in early 2010.

Many people however were opposed to the sign and voiced an opinion that a more comprehensive consultation process was required.

For this reason, the Airport initiated the current public process to ensure the entire community had the opportunity to put forward their ideas and vote on them.
