Queen St closure for RWC 2011 Aotea Fanzone

Queen St in Auckland’s CBD will be closed between Mayoral Drive and Wakefield St from 7am tomorrow morning to support the Aotea Square Fanzone, which is opening for the RWC2011 Final.

The westbound side of Wakefield St between Mayoral Dr and Queen St will be closed at the same time.

From 4am Sunday the Queen St closure will be extended to Wellesley St. The eastbound side of Wakefield St between Mayoral Dr and Queen St will also be closed.

These closures will remain in place until 7pm Monday. Some bus stops in this area will be closed or relocated and some services diverted. Special event buses to the RWC2011 Final will leave from the bus stop on Wellesley St outside the Civic. Find out more at maxxco.nz

From 10.30pm on Sunday, or earlier if necessary, Queen St will be closed from Customs St downtown to Victoria St. Customs St could also be closed on Sunday night if necessary. The closure of this section of Queen St and Customs St will be in place for an hour or until crowds clear.

Wellesley and Victoria Sts, which cross Queen St, will still be open to vehicles, however people travelling in the CBD on Sunday night are being advised to be patient and expect delays. All parking buildings will remain open.

The Queen St closures are in addition to closures on Quay St for the downtown Fanzones which are in place until 6am Monday.
