Walk and Talk with the Mayor in Porirua's Outdoors
Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett is kicking off a new event this month and invites the city's residents to join him in a walk along one of Porirua's lovely walkways.
"Porirua is home to a beautiful harbour and a stunning array of spectacular landscapes but often we're too busy to take the time to explore them. I want to change that," he says.
"I've organized a series of "Mayoral Walks" that will allow residents, community groups and businesses to join me in taking full advantage of Porirua's awesome natural assets - and help us keep fit and healthy at the same time."
The Mayoral Walk Series, consisting of four 2-hour walks in different parts of the city, aims to combine a healthy activity with an appreciation of the natural beauty Porirua has to offer.
"It's a chance to meet other residents of our great city and to walk and have an informal chat with me or the councillors about what is on your mind. There will be prizes to give away, food and drink and some fun as well."
Participants should register for prizes and giveaways just before each walk which will be held at the following locations and dates:
Whitby Walkways on Tuesday 15 November 2011. Meet at Whitby Shops by the lake at 5.30pm.
Colonial Knob on Tuesday 22 November. Meet in the car park by Camp Elsdon in Raiha Street at 5.30pm. Candidates for the Mana Electorate will be on this challenging walk too!
Bothamley Park on Tuesday 29 November. Meet at the Champion Street car park at 5.30pm.
Aotea Lagoon on Saturday 10 December. Meet at the Rose Garden end of Aotea Lagoon at 11am. Walk up to Ascot Park and through Papakowhai and back to the lagoon. This walk will have a Christmas theme and end with a festive activity in the Rose Garden.
