Road safety focus for kindy
week
Auckland Transport is proud to support the Auckland Kindergarten Associations annual Awareness Week (14-18 November).
The week’s focus is all about teaching children useful road safety skills through games and group activities. Kindergartens in Auckland will receive from Auckland Transport a resource pack filled with road safety activities, lesson plans and prizes.
Kids will learn the road safety haka, how to build pedestrian crossings in the kindergarten playground, practising being a safe pedestrian, participation in road safety puppet shows, issuing licenses for the use of trolleys/bikes/scooters, fancy feet days and free helmet check clinics.
Auckland Transport Community Transport Manager Matthew Rednall says “It is never too early to start learning about road safety.
“It is great to see kindergartens focusing on road safety, as children of all ages benefit from learning skills to keep them safe.”
Tanya Harvey, General
Manager of the Auckland Kindergarten Association says
“reducing the number of pre-school children injured or
killed in road accidents and encouraging families to walk
their child to kindy are top priorities.”
