Vandalism and mail theft in
Papatoetoe
New Zealand Post is seeking assistance
from the Police to investigate an attack on two street
posting boxes (boxes where the public post their
mail) in Papatoetoe sometime during Tuesday night or
Wednesday morning this week.
"The boxes, located
outside 245 Great South Road in Papatoetoe, suffered extreme
damage, and had to be replaced," New Zealand Post spokesman
Michael Tull said.
"Of greater concern to us is the
fact that an unknown quantity of mail may have been stolen
from the boxes. This is a serious crime, and we take a zero
tolerance approach.
"It appears that some mail from
both boxes may have been removed. This potentially affects
any members of the public who mailed items in these street
posting boxes between 6pm on Tuesday 15 November and 10am on
Wednesday 16 November.
"It's important to remember
that only the boxes outside 245 Great South Road were
affected. Mail posted anywhere else in Papatoetoe will have
been collected and delivered as usual.
"People who
used those street posting boxes between those hours should
consider whether they may need to re-send the mail in
question," Michael Tull said.
Anyone with information
on this crime should contact Papatoetoe
Police.
