User views on State Highway 3 sought
As part of a major economic development study into State Highway 3, Venture Taranaki is conducting an online survey to get feedback on the route’s impact on business activity and lifestyle decisions.
“Anecdotally, State Highway 3 has consistently been identified as a constraint to growth and connectedness, but this survey looks to get a clear and concrete picture of the actual impacts on businesses and residents along the route,” says Venture Taranaki chief executive Stuart Trundle.
The survey seeks business and household feedback on the effects of its current condition and design, desired route improvements, and the potential benefits that significant improvements to SH3 might have on users and the regional and national economies.
“Venture Taranaki’s role, as the region’s economic development agency, is to provide informed and robust information to assist decision makers on the significance of this route.”
The survey is looking for responses beyond Taranaki in an effort to gain the input of businesses and communities along the entire route.
“While Taranaki is at the centre of SH3, its quality and condition have an impact on those along its entire route, and even beyond it. For this reason we’re keen to get responses from the Waikato, Whanganui and Waikato and even further afield.”
The survey has been developed by the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) as part of a broader study of the potential strategic and wider benefits of significantly improving State Highway 3.
“The survey results will help us with our initial identification of issues and their importance,” says Stuart.
“Commitments by the Minister of Transport make this research timely and important to inform Government as they prioritise this route in their work programme over the next three years.”
“It may also bring to our attention some issues, stakeholders and data sources that we are not currently aware of. We are also looking to follow up with further interviews for major industry stakeholders.”
