Earthquake Commission Sending Assessment Teams To Nelson

EQC Sending Assessment Teams To Nelson

The Earthquake Commission (EQC) is sending a team of five assessors to Nelson today to assess residential property damage from the recent heavy rain in the region.

EQC National Operations Manager, Reid Stiven, said that the commission has received 28 claims from the event so far - all are for landslip damage to residential property.

The commission covers landslip damage to both homes and sections, and flood and storm damage to land.

“We expect that there will be many more claims over the next couple of days, and will re-evaluate as things evolve. If there is a need, more teams will be sent to the area next week,” he said.

The Commission is closely monitoring developing weather events in the North Island.

“We have teams resourced across the country to cope with this type of event. The fact that we have a huge resource committed to the Christchurch and Canterbury events does not diminish our ability to respond effectively in other parts of New Zealand,” said Mr Stiven.
