Wairarapa balloon accident investigation update #3

Wairarapa balloon accident investigation update #3

Transport Accident Investigation Commission investigators have today been focused on detailed site examination in conjunction with the Police DVI and inquiry teams as they work to complete their on-scene work.

The close examination and progressive packing of evidence into a container for removal to a secure facility is expected to take until Wednesday, possibly Thursday.

Meanwhile, interviews and documentary evidence collection has continued and will do for some time as the investigation team works to assemble evidence for the Commission’s inquiry which will determine the circumstances of the accident and make any recommendations which might improve transport safety.

(While media are welcome to continue to contact me as usual, I am leaving the area this evening and no further updates or media opportunities are planned, other than a media advisory we hope to issue at least two hours ahead of the evidence container leaving the site.)
