New Fordlands’ youth space grand opening next weekend
ROTORUA 03.02.12:
Netball, touch rugby,
and rippa rugby competitions are just some of the events
taking place at next week’s grand opening of the new
Fordlands’ youth space on Wrigley Road Reserve.
The
new youth space includes skateboarding facilities, two
basketball half-courts, a netball court, fields, and BMX
dirt mounds.
RDC youth projects officer Jill Campbell
says the grand opening on Saturday 11 February promises to
be a fun and entertaining day to celebrate the hard work
undertaken by the council team, local youth and Ko Te Tuara
Totara O Fordlands community group, which has enabled the
dream of having a skatepark in the area to become a
reality.
“The new youth space is going to have such
a positive effect on the Fordlands community that we want to
kick off with a special opening event that offers a real
celebration for people of all ages.
“There’ll be
all kinds of fun activities for families to enjoy including
sport competitions, a raft race, bouncy castle, kids’
stuff, free sausage sizzle, cash prizes and
giveaways.”
Netball, touch rugby and rippa rugby
teams can register for free at the Fordlands Community House
on Bellingham Crescent. The deadline for registrations is
Friday 9 February. For registration enquires please ring Ko
Te Tuara Totara O Fordlands on 07 343 9691.
The
Fordlands youth space grand opening is on Saturday 11
February from 11am to 3pm.
Rotorua District
Council’s Youth Spaces project is a result of submissions
made to the council’s last draft Ten Year Plan by young
people from Fordlands, Koutu and Western Heights, due to
lack of activities for young people in those
communities.
