Nominations open for Rotorua’s Community Awards
Rotorua District Council is calling for nominations for the annual Rotorua District Community Awards.
The awards recognise locals who have demonstrated outstanding civic responsibility or community service; have made a significant difference to the Rotorua community; or have achieved national or international recognition.
Nominations are also being accepted for the awards’ Youth Section for young people aged 15 to 25 who have demonstrated similar achievements.
Mayor Kevin Winters says the Rotorua awards, established in 1992, are an opportunity for local people to be acknowledged for their exceptional voluntary contributions to the community.
“There are many locals doing great things in our community, and others putting Rotorua in the spotlight with their successes outside of the community.
“We want them to know their efforts are noticed and appreciated. And we want to celebrate these people for what they do to help make Rotorua the great place it is today.”
Award winners will be selected from nominations received, by a panel comprising Mayor Winters and councillors Trevor Maxwell, Glenys Searancke, Janet Wepa, Mike McVicker and Maureen Waaka. Each recipient will be presented with a framed citation and a gift from the council at a special community awards function to be hosted by the mayor in May.
Nominations close at 12 noon on Thursday 26 April. Nomination forms can be obtained from the Rotorua District Council’s Customer Centre, Rotorua District Library and City Focus or downloaded from the council website www.rdc.govt.nz under the ‘Community’ tab.
