New Auckland restaurant announces Executive Chef and front of house team

Auckland’s newest waterfront restaurant is a step closer to opening at the end of this month (March) after announcing the appointment of its talented new Executive Chef and front of house team.

Botswana Butchery Auckland has brought Stuart Rogan on board to run the new kitchen and lead a highly experienced kitchen brigade. The new restaurant is currently under construction in the historic Auckland Ferry Building on Quay Street.

Chef Rogan said he felt “very privileged” to be part of the iconic project and promised to deliver the premium fun-dining experience to which loyal Botswana customers had become accustomed.

“One of the most exciting things is that a lot of people already know Botswana from the outstanding reputation its sister restaurants have gained in Wanaka and Queenstown,” he said.

“Being involved in the roll-out of Botswana in Auckland is very exciting. I am able to bring my own influences to bear while utilizing the proven brand qualities.”

Classically-trained Chef Rogan previously worked with the company behind Botswana Butchery 14 years ago, when major shareholder Al Spary established iconic Queenstown restaurant The Bunker.

Rogan went on to a number of roles at prominent Auckland restaurants and most recently was Head Chef at The Grill at Sky City Grand Hotel.

He said he was delighted that a number of “brilliant” chefs with whom he had worked throughout his career would join him at Botswana Butchery Auckland.

“I’m excited to be able to build my own team from scratch.”

While the final menu is still being developed, renowned dishes on the menu will include Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder for Two, the Butchers Block, Peking Duck and Botswana Butchery’s famous Spanish-style whitebait.

“This will be a big operation, open for lunches and dinners, and the Auckland market will have great expectations, so we’ll deliver something that’s quite plush but simple,” he said.

Botswana Butchery Auckland will be open for lunch from 11am to 5pm, dinner from 5pm to 11pm, and will offer a bar menu from 11am to late. The bar will also open from 11am to late.
Joining Chef Rogan in Auckland will be Queenstown and Christchurch-based team members Kieran Turnbull and Jess Neame.

Kieran, most recently General Manager of Aikmans and Bardello in the company’s hospitality precinct in Merivale, Christchurch, will be Botswana Butchery Auckland General Manager. Before Christchurch he was operations manager for the group’s Queenstown and Wanaka outlets.

Also making the move to Auckland on a three-month secondment to assist with the start-up phase is Botswana Butchery Queenstown Front of House Manager Jess Neame. She is a familiar face in the resort town where she has been working in that role for the past two and a half years.

The new restaurant is scheduled to open late March 2012.
