Unison Working to Restore Outages in Taupo

Media Release

Unison Working to Restore Outages in Taupo

20 March 2012 – Unison Networks Ltd is working to restore power in Taupo and Rotorua following outages caused by high winds and rain across the central North Island.

The tropical cyclone currently battering the North Island has hit the Taupo region particularly hard, with high winds and tree debris damaging power lines and toppling power poles causing pockets of outages across the district.

The high winds are delaying the ability of Unison lines crews to reconnect some customers, with conditions too dangerous for staff to work in.

“With adverse weather conditions expected to continue throughout the day, the power supply situation will remain fluid until the wind starts to abate. Our teams have been working through the night and will continue to work hard to ensure disruption to customers is minimised wherever safety permits,” said Unison Group Chief Executive, Ken Sutherland.

Unison is diverting lines crews from Hawke’s Bay to assist Taupo lines crews with bringing customers back on line.
