Unison Continuing Efforts to Restore Power in Taupo
Unison Continuing Efforts to Restore Power in Taupo
9.30am, Wednesday 21 March 2012 – Approximately 500 Taupo residents face a second day without power as Unison works to restore significant damage caused by wild weather.
Debris and fallen trees are hampering efforts by Unison lines crews to restore power in parts of the Taupo district following two days of high winds and rain which toppled trees, power poles and power lines.
Unison Customer Relations Manager Danny Gough said the weather front had caused significant challenges for the Company.
“There has been a large amount of damage to our network, and the high winds yesterday prevented us from working to restore power in some areas.
“Although conditions have eased today, we can’t access some locations due to fallen trees and debris until forestry owners clear access for our lines crews. In conjunction with this, we will be using a helicopter to survey the damage.”
Customers are advised that power is likely to remain off in pockets of the Taupo region until lines crews can access and repair sections of the network.
“We understand that being without power for an extended period creates challenges for rural and urban customers and businesses, and we’ll continue to put all our efforts into restoring supply as quickly as possible,” said Mr Gough.
