ITF President To Address Wharfies Collecting Pay

Thursday March 29, 2012
ITF President To Address Wharfies Collecting Pay

Teal Park

2.45 pm today

Wharfies gathering this afternoon to collect their first pay in five weeks will be addressed by International Transport Federation President Paddy Crumlin and Frank Leys, secretary of the dockers section of the ITF.

Earlier in the day Paddy Crumlin will meet with Auckland Mayor Len Brown to discuss the situation on the waterfront.

The port workers lifted their strike last week but the Ports of Auckland refused to let them return to work.

At an Employment Court hearing on Tuesday the Ports of Auckland agreed to pay the workers for the time they have been available for work but they will have to report in person to an office near Teal Park between 3 pm and 5 pm today to be paid.

Paddy Crumlin and Frank Leys will be available for interviews and photos from 2.45 pm today.

Workers collecting their first pay for five weeks will also be available to talk about the difficult time they and their families are going through.
