Napier to Gisborne Line Assessment Complete

KiwiRail engineers have completed the assessment of the damage to the Napier to Gisborne line and have reported it will cost between $3.3 and $4.3 million to repair and take approximately five months to complete.

Chief Executive Jim Quinn says that in light of this expense and the time needed to repair the line, KiwiRail will now complete the wider work required to bring the full picture together on the long term viability for the line, including working with NZ Transport Agency to establish any impact on the roads.

Any decision to repair the line will be left until that work is complete.
