Big win for Nelson couple
Big win for Nelson couple
A Nelson family is off to Africa on a $23,000 holiday, thanks to the roof of their new Stoke home.
Brad and Rochelle Meikle entered a Gerard Roofs’ customer competition, based on the company’s advertising campaign that their ‘worry-proof roof’ takes the weight of an elephant off your house.
“Linking this concept to a prize where you’d see real elephants on a three day Kruger National Park safari captured the imagination of our clients, with over 300 entering nationwide,” says Gerard Roofs General Manager Scott Duncan. “The Meikles will also visit the Victoria Falls, Cape Town, and will see lions, leopards, buffalos and rhinos as well as elephants on their morning and evening game drives in the national park.”
Rochelle Meikle says she has never won anything before and couldn’t believe it when she heard their name had come up in the draw
“Brad is always watching lions on the Discovery Channel – we’ve both got a real thing about Africa,” she said. “I think that’s why I can’t really believe it, I keep telling Brad to pinch me,”
The Meikles have been to Australia a couple of times and to the Philippines for a wedding but have not travelled widely and have yet todecide when they will take their eleven day African holiday. The prize is for travel for tow, but the Meikles intend taking their two children, Madison and Tyler, along as well.
The trip has been organised by Auckland based boutique travel company World Journeys, who offer tailor-made and escorted travel world wide; in conjunction with their partners South African Airways and safari operators &Beyond. &Beyond operates 46 luxury safari lodges and camps around the world; while South African Airways is Africa’s leading airline and offers the fastest way to Africa via Sydney.
Scott Duncan said the Christchurch earthquake and recent severe weather events had made people more aware of the issues around choosing a roofing material.
“Our steel tiles are fixed horizontally so they are more secure in high winds, they don’t crack like ceramic tiles and they can take the weight of heavy snow,” he said. “We cite the example of a North Shore couple whose Gerard roof stood up to the May tornado last year when their neighbours’ tiles became flying missiles of destruction – it’s a pretty convincing case.”
The Meikle’s house was built by the Orange Building Group.
