Record Number Of Porirua Businesses Step Into The Limelight

Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett is 'stoked' that a record number of Porirua businesses have been named finalists in this year's Wellington Region Gold Awards, announced last night.

"It's great that these Porirua businesses have put themselves forward for recognition, because we have so many successful and innovative businesses in our city that have tended to fly under the radar in the region," says Mayor Leggett.

"The fact that Porirua businesses are finalists in six of the nine categories also shows the range and strength of Porirua's business environment, which, according to economic researchers Berl, has experienced the 6th fastest business unit growth rate in New Zealand over the past 5 years," he says.

"For many of these businesses, Porirua's central location in the Wellington region gives them an advantage, either through efficient access to local suppliers or markets, or the ability to tap into the wide range of skills on offer within Porirua City's workforce and the surrounding metropolitan area."

"I'd like to congratulate these businesses and their dedicated teams on making the finals and wish them continued success commercially, and hope they triumph at the Awards!"

Porirua Finalists in the Wellington Region Gold Awards are:

Cyber Gold (technology sector) - The Splice Group
Emerging Gold (smaller businesses) - Greenkeeper Systems
Global Gold (exporters of goods and services) - Radiola Aerospace
Vibrant Gold (events, visitor facilities and hospitality sectors) - Adrenalin Forest
ACC Workplace Safety Award - Sealed Air Corporation
Green Gold (sustainable practices) - Mana Recovery
